Small Wine Bottles
Everything you need to know about wine bottle labels.
If you enjoy making your own wine then you will need bottles in which to store the finished product. When looking into this there are various shapes and sizes of bottles available, although small wine bottles can be one of the best options for a number of reasons.
Typically if you are buying wine bottles wholesale or from a store, the smallest size available is 375ml. Although half the size if the standard 750ml bottle size, small wine bottles tend to come in the same styles and this can include a range of shapes including Bordeaux, Hock and Claret style bottles to name a few.
There are a number of advantages that can be gained from using small wine bottles. If you only make small quantities of home made wine, storing it in smaller bottles means that you have more available. If you like to give friends and family bottles of your wine, this will mean you have more bottles to do this with. Using wine bottles of a smaller size also means you are less likely to waste any of your wine. When a bottle is opened the wine will only last so long and it is less likely that you will finish a larger bottle of wine. The quantity of wine in a smaller bottle however will be easier to consume and less likely to go to waste by not being finished.
Although the smallest bottle typically available for purchase for home made wines is usually 375ml, bottled wine can be purchased in smaller sizes. Some wines are available in bottle sizes which range in size from 0.1875ml to 0.5ml. However if you intend to buy 375ml bottles for storing your own wine they are available from a number of retailers. The internet can be one of the best places to search for these and some of the web stores that have them available include Vintners Global, Quality Wine and Ale Supply and also Shore Container. These companies have a range of bottle shapes available which includes Burgundy, Hock and antique looking bottles.
Typically the closure method for small wine bottles is a cork although some have screw bottle tops. The cost will typically depend on the type of bottle selected. At the affordable end of the market a case of 12 Flint Composite wine bottles can be purchased for around $6 from Shore Container. This is a screw top bottle fashioned in clear glass. At the more expensive end of the scale a case of 24 semi-burgundy style bottles from Quality Wine and Ale Supply costs around $25 to purchase. These are available in clear, green or blue glass and are cork sealed. Typically costs for a case of 12 bottles will range between around $5 and $15 although the greater the quantity of bottles you purchase, the lower the price per bottle will be.
Using small wine bottles to store your home made wine can be an excellent choice. If you only make a small batch of wine it can be stored in more bottles and this means it should last longer and is less likely to be wasted. It also allows you to give more bottles as gifts to family and friends so that they can enjoy the fruits of your labor as much as you can.
